Super Savings at Dollar Tree

Super Savings at Dollar Tree

When a Dollar Tree was coming to my small city, Facebook lit up. The comments were mainly made by people that didn’t want it coming to their city. They wanted something more exciting, like a new restaurant or another gym.

And then the teachers saw the post. They were excited that after school, they didn’t have to drive 15 -20 minutes away to buy supplies for their classroom. In the end, Dollar Tree was already in process, planning to open soon. No amount of positive or negative reaction on Facebook, at that point, would change their plans. And I think now that they have been in town several years, people have recognized their value.

Food

Lil' Dutch Maid Almond Windmill cookies. Yum

I am one of the people that loved the idea of Dollar Tree coming to town. And I’m not even a teacher. Occasionally, I buy miscellaneous items and cookies there. My favorite cookies in the store are Lil’ Dutch Maid Almond Windmill cookies. I don’t buy them a pack at a time, I usually buy 3 or 4 packs at a time.

If you are having a movie night, they have plenty of candy snacks, just like at the movie theaters.

They have a small selection of food items. You will also find some frozen items. I once saved myself a trip to the grocery store to buy Cool Whip, because to my surprise, Dollar Tree had it.

Plus, if you need Cool Whip or something else but don’t want to make another stop, Dollar Tree might have what you are looking for. They carry cold items, frozen items, boxed items, canned items, juice, and more.

Greeting cards

Hallmark cards at Dollar Tree
These are a few of the beautiful Hallmark cards I have purchased at Dollar Tree.

Most of the greeting cards I buy at Dollar Tree are for birthdays. The two on the right were 2 for $1, so I bought two, of course. I tend to buy cards ahead of time, so I am always ready for a birthday party. You were probably thinking that these cards are low-quality cards for that price. But, I never think of Hallmark cards as low quality. These cards are from the “Heartline” line of Hallmark, with a price on the back of over $2. The bigger one on the left was $1. The last time I was at Dollar Tree they had not raised the price of cards, but that could happen at any time. If the price does go up, they will remain a super savings item in my opinion.

I found graduation cards at Dollar Tree a few years back, that I loved. The wording was the best I had ever seen, and they were religious, which to me, is a plus. I loved them so much, that I bought four of them, exactly the same. This gave me one for each of the nieces that were graduating from high school and middle school. They were in different families, except for the twins that graduated from high school. I couldn’t give one of the twins a perfect card and the other a just OK card. No, I love them equally, they both received the perfect card.

Party items

Matching plates, plastic silverware, cups, and tablecloths can be found at Dollar Tree. They come in an assortment of colors. They even carry helium balloons.

Since I’m not throwing many parties, my main purchase is disposable table cloths. Don’t tell anyone, but I use them for covering the table when we are camping. You can wipe them off when needed. Once camping is over, toss them. I always keep several in my trailer, just in case.

Hair accessories, shampoo, toothpaste, and more.

I picked up a new hair brush that works great. I tend to buy shampoo, toothpaste, and some toothbrushes at Dollar Tree. I typically buy four tubes of toothpaste at a time. I can stock up and still pay a low price. I buy name brands, so I never worry about the quality.

Storage items

When you are looking for plastic items for storage, Dollar Tree has such a great, colorful selection. They have various sizes of containers with lids for food storage. I bought rectangular baskets for sorting out the items in my pantry and areas of my kitchen cupboards. I used another size for organizing items in and on my desk. I’ve used some to organize areas in my laundry room or under the sink in my bathrooms. (Think hair dryers, flat irons, and curling irons all nicely organized and easy to find – see the rust one below.) There are so many uses for them, and you can mix and match colors to your heart’s desire. My new favorite size is the dark blue one in the picture below – inside the bright green basket that I used in my pantry.

Reading glasses

I need reading glasses, and I tend to have a pair in every room I might need them. I have a pair in my bedroom, my bathroom, on my kitchen table (for reading my morning devotions,) in the family room, in my purse, and in my office. Dollar Tree has a wide assortment of frames in different reading powers (+1, +2.5, +3.75, +4.0, etc.) As inexpensive as they are, there is no reason to spend time in your house looking for a pair of readers. I was even able to get my husband to buy a few pairs.

Other items

For those of you who are not familiar with Dollar Tree, you will be amazed at what they carry. Along with cleaning supplies, they carry makeup and nail polish. You can purchase candles and glassware for you and chalk and bubbles for the kids. And they carry candy, toys, books, stickers, coloring books, gift bags, and gift wrap. If you are crafty, check out their craft supplies. Pet owners, be sure to check out the pet section for toys and food. Keep in mind that the selection of items may vary by store.

They also carry aluminum foil pans for turkeys, hams, and casseroles. In multiple sizes. These are great if you are bringing a meal to someone who is recovering from surgery, or recently had a baby.

Dollar Tree is a great place to save money because everything is $1.25 or less. However, there is no way you can exclusively shop at Dollar Tree for all your grocery needs since their selection isn’t very large. But check out their selection of canned food, juice, and frozen items. You might end up bringing some of them home with you.

Check the quality of some items

As a result of not checking, I made a mistake and purchased dish towels. However, they pretty much didn’t soak up any spills or dry any dishes. But when you are looking at a name-brand item, you can count on the quality.

At this time, everything at Dollar Tree is $1.25 or less. I understand that they had to raise their prices. You can’t make a profit selling things for $1 forever. Eventually, it’s not practical because everything goes up in price. Check out Dollar Tree, where you can still get everything for $1.25 or less. Don’t delay, there are many super savings waiting for you.
