Hopefully, you are having a birthday soon, but not too soon. You might need time to set yourself up for your free gifts. And if you don’t have time before this year’s birthday, it’s time to get ahead for next year.
Free dessert is common at many restaurants on your birthday. It is possible you may have to show ID, but most times I’ve seen the employees will take your word. This free dessert maybe something small compared to their regular dessert menu features, but sometimes it’s right off the dessert menu. Your dessert may come with some of the employees singing happy birthday to you, which can be embarrassing. I am on Olive Garden’s free birthday dessert list and they gave me from two weeks before my birthday to one week after, to redeem my gift.
If you have a favorite place that you frequent, ask them if you can sign up to be informed about any discounts, specials or birthday rewards. They may refer to it as signing up for their E-club or Rewards club. Many places will require you to fill out a small form online. To redeem your reward you will need to show an employee the text or email that you received.
Each year I receive a free bundtlet, in the flavor of my choice, from Nothing Bundt Cake. If you are on their mailing list, occasionally they will have specials that you can also take advantage of when you visit. BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery offers a free Pizookie for signing up, plus one for your birthday, plus other specials. Baskin Robbins also rewards you with a free scoop of ice cream for your birthday and other deals throughout the year.
Sometimes you will be required to purchase something else to get your free item(s). I was super happy with Arby’s offer. I was required to buy a regular sandwich, my choice, for my birthday and I received a free small shake and free small fries. Curly fries are something I really love. Their shakes were new to me and I was pleasantly surprised, thinking their shake is the best I’ve ever tasted.
Are you a credit card holder at your favorite department store? There may be a birthday gift available. Some of them depend on the level of the credit card you own. I’ve had a JC Penney credit card since I was 18. This year for my birthday I received a $15 gift card. It was only valid for a limited time. I went into the store trying to buy a purse or a shirt. Thanks to a sale on the shirt and clearance on the purse, plus 5% off for using my credit card and my $15 gift card, I purchased over $100 of merchandise. I only had to put $17.25 on my credit card for both items. Who doesn’t love a deal, especially this big of one?
For my birthday I also received 5% off on one shopping trip at Target. I believe I had a month to use it.
What happens if you don’t use your birthday gift? Well, there is always next year. However, when you have several days or weeks to claim your free items, what is stopping you, besides the calories?
Make your next birthday better than ever before. Start checking the internet and signing up for your free gifts now, at the places you normally shop at, or someplace new. You will likely have to give them your first and last name, email address and birth date. Others may require your phone number and zip code. You may find yourself getting special notifications of discounts, at other times of the year, which I consider a bonus.
