Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother's Day

It’s that time of year again. Mother’s Day. I had a mother, but she died a few years back. But something my mother had started many years ago is still something I cling to each year. Since my mother couldn’t send a Mother’s Day card to her mother, after she died, she began sending a card to each of her daughters, once we became mothers. After all, we were mothers to her grandchildren. I started the tradition several years ago before my mother died. I send a Mother’s Day card to my daughter and one to my daughter-in-law. You can find cards that are meant for both in every store that sells Mother’s Day cards.

Since my mother has died and I can’t send her a card, it’s nice to be sending cards to two very wonderful daughters who are raising my grandchildren. This way, it makes it easier when Mother’s Day comes around because it is still a holiday I can celebrate. Maybe it’s time for you to give cards to your daughter(s) and daughter(s)-in-law, even if your own mom is alive. If she is alive, give her an extra big hug, because you never know how many more Mother’s Days you will be blessed with in the years to come.

Enjoy Mother’s Day, whether it be with your mom, a bonus mom, a daughter or two. Give them a special hug if you can. Or at least a sentimental card. Like all of life, mothers are temporary. Enjoy them while you can. Do you have a comment? Please reply below.

Celebrating Thanksgiving after Tragedy

A feast of Thanksgiving food

Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks for your blessings and we don’t think about it as a time of tragedy. But this year there will be many people that will be in the midst of or just getting beyond a tragedy. And they will have to decide if they will be celebrating Thanksgiving after tragedy.

So many things could happen to stop or delay your Thanksgiving celebration. A death in the family can cause you to cancel it for the year or postphone it a few days or weeks. Or maybe you will be having a small meal at your home. And other family members will do the same or gather with other friends and family.

If someone in the family is hospitalized or just released from the hospital it may cause you to change the plans.

A very unexpected tragedy could be the loss of the home where you gather due to flooding, a fire, or a hurricane.

Estate Sales – Love them or hate them?

Estate Sales

At the first estate sale I went to, I purchased a terra cotta bowl for storing my hose in. I think I paid $6, which was a good deal. The sale was in southern California and my son brought me there to entertain me since he knew I liked garage sales. Since then I’ve been to several more.

One of my recent purchases was a family of quail terra cotta planters. I think I probably paid too much, in my eagerness to own them. But they do look awfully cute as containers for three of my succulents.

Most items I pick up, I put down and walk away, because I am painfully aware that I should be getting rid of my clutter, not adding to it.
