Why You Should be Reading James Patterson’s Books

James Patterson books

If you love thrilling books, most of James Patterson’s books should be of interest to you. Actually, he has written a few love stories and non-fiction books, too. However, there are too many of his thrillers out there, for me to spend time with the others at this time. It is one of my goals to read nearly every book he has ever written. That may be difficult since he comes out with in excess of twenty books each year.

James Patterson is the bestselling author of the world. He has had 73 #1 bestsellers. Some of his books have been turned into movies. He has written for both adults and teens. He started writing for teens when his son wasn’t reading many books. Mr. Patterson says “there is no such thing as a person who doesn’t like to read, only people who haven’t found the right book.” If you like to stick with the same author, you can plan on reading his books for many years, since he has already written over 300 books.

Women’s Murder Club Series

I am currently reading his Women’s Murder Club series. This series is written by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. She has worked with him on over two dozen bestselling books.

I fell in love with the Women’s Murder Club in the first book, “The 1st to Die,” published in 2001. I am currently reading the “19th Christmas.” The 20th book in the series “20th Victim” came out in May 2020. And the “21st Birthday” will be published in May 2021. So at this time, I may have to buy his next book every May until James Patterson ends the series.

After reading about the four main characters through eighteen books, I feel like they are my friends. They have suffered through many personal catastrophes while helping to solve a crime. The crimes range from local, San Francisco, crime to worldwide terrorist attacks. Each crime is more interesting and exciting than the last. And I will give away one thing about this series that took me by complete surprise. The Women’s Murder Club has always been a group of four women. However, during the course of time, one of them died and was replaced by another woman.

With each book, you become more attached to the characters. Lindsay works in the homicide department of the San Francisco police department. She tells each story through her experiences at work and with her friends in the Women’s Murder Club. She loves being a police officer, following in her father’s footsteps.

I cannot live without books.

Other books and series

James Patterson has many stand-alone books, so I think I will read some of them for a while once I catch up on this series, which should be soon. There are several other series that I could start, but I don’t yet have the complete series, since I’ve been searching for over a year for his books. And he continues to write more books each month. Also, I will admit that as much as I love James Patterson’s books I do like to switch it up by reading something from John Grisham or Mary Higgins Clark now and then. They write similar, thrilling books, that keep you guessing as to the outcome of the book until the very end.

Some of his other series include NYPD Red, Private, Michael Bennett, and Alex Cross. James Petterson has so many stand-alone books that if you aren’t into reading a series of ten or twenty books you will have plenty to choose from. Some of my collection of his books include The Inn, Honeymoon, Lifeguard, Beach Road, Swimsuit, Zoo, The Postcard Killers, Woman of God, Truth or Die, Juror #3, and The Chef. I am able to purchase so many of his books because I am fortunate to have two Thrift Shops within 5 miles of my home, which sell all their books for ten cents a book on Thursdays.

James Patterson has a group of books called Bookshots. I haven’t purchased any yet. They are shorter books (under 150 pages), that are as exciting but take you less time to read. In addition, they sell for $5.00 or less.

James Patterson

James Patterson started writing books at age 29. He is turning 74 on March 22, 2021. To date, he has written over 300 books. At this time I have read only 21 of them. I own about 100 of his books. I never want to get to a point where I don’t have a book on hand and since finding each book takes time, I buy them when I find them. Each of them has kept me awake too long at night, desiring to read just one more chapter because I couldn’t quit reading in the middle of an exciting part of the book. Pretty much every chapter of the book is exciting. Finally, I stop reading because I’m falling asleep or it’s just too late, and I need to get to bed.

I will admit that I don’t always like the language in his books, but it does make it more realistic. His characters are believable and I want all the main characters to come out alive at the end of the book. Not everyone does, but it’s usually the bad guys that don’t.

Philanthropist

One thing that shows a lot about James Patterson, the man, is the number of donations of books that he has given to school kids in underserved neighborhoods and the military. That number exceeds three million books. In addition, he has given millions of dollars in support of education and college scholarships.

It amazes me that he is usually writing twenty to thirty books at a time. At least 23 of his books will be released this year. It is amazing that one person can be so prolific with his writing, never running out of ideas. As long as he continues to write, he will continue to give away money and books to those in need.

He started writing his teen books because of his desire to get his own son to love reading. Children growing up and loving to read books is important to James Patterson. I haven’t read any of his teen books but one day I hope to introduce my grandchildren to this wonderful author.

Who is your favorite author? Do you love mysteries and thrillers or are you more interested in science fiction or romance? Historical? There are so many books to choose from. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

I wish I could get my husband to read them. I think he would like them, but he doesn’t like to read. Your husband might also like John Grisham. I started with him, but I still have a few of his left to find. Thanks for commenting.
