Deciding on my favorite quote of all time is not so simple. First, I have a lot of quotes that I really like. I have posted many of them on my blog. How could I possibly narrow it down to just one quote?
I love to quote Martin Luther King, Jr. He is still so sensible, especially in today’s world.
How about Helen Keller? She is so smart and a great disability rights activist.
And occasionally, I find a quote from one of our past Presidents that needs to be shared.
My most often quoted person is Martin Luther King, Jr.
I have so much respect for almost everything Martin Luther King, Jr. has said. And there will probably be no speech more important than his “I Have a Dream” speech.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
““Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Our lives begin to end the day, we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sometimes my quotes are from Christians
How about Mother Teresa, C.S. Lewis, Saint Francis of Assisi, or maybe Corrie ten Boom? They are famous Christians who left a mark on this world in their words.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – C.S. Lewis
“Worry is like a rocking chair: it keeps you moving but it doesn’t get you anywhere.” – Corrie ten Boom
“I would rather walk with God in the dark, than go alone in the light.”
– Mary Gardiner Brainard
“Every day we are called to do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
“Silence in the face of evil is in itself evil. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“It is in giving oneself that one receives.” – Saint Francis of Assisi
Sometimes my quotes are by “unknown”
You know that person. The “unknown” person who said something and it was written down, but they failed to remember who said it. Or maybe more than one person is attributed to the quote. So they remain unknown, but they have spoken wise words.
“It’s nice to be important, but more important to be nice.” -Unknown
“There’s a skinny girl who lives inside of me that is trying to get out, but I can usually shut her up with cookies.” – Unknown
“If we think of everything we have to do, we feel overwhelmed. If we do the one thing we have to do, we make progress.” – Unknown
“What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday.” – Unknown
What about other famous people?
These include an inventor, a President, an American author and disability rights activist, and both a French and an American essayist. All very famous and all well respected.
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.”
– Helen Keller
“A part of kindness consists in loving people more than they deserve.” – Joseph Joubert
“There is no substitute for hard work.” – Thomas A. Edison
“The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
“All men are created equal.” – Thomas Jefferson, Declaration of Independence.
My favorite quote of all time is
It’s a quote that I was given by a friend to help me cope with overwhelm. I have had it taped to my computer for many years now. It’s something that I need to keep reminding myself of daily. And the winner is:
“If we think of everything we have to do, we feel overwhelmed. If we do the one thing we have to do, we make progress.” – Unknown
