9 of My Favorite Things

Favorite Things

Remember Mary Poppins singing These are a Few of “My Favorite Things.” Her favorite things included things like raindrops on roses, bright copper kettles, snowflakes on noses, sleigh bells, and warm woolen mittens. Most of these things are sensory. They make a person happy and bring a smile to your face. They are nice things, but a little different from my list of favorite things.

We could make so many lists of things. How about things we cannot live without? My list of the actual things I can’t live without would include clean water, air to breathe, food, clothing, a safe place to live, etc. But those items are pretty much the same for everyone. That is except for people that are living in poverty and do not have access to shoes or clean water or enough food to eat. In a comparison of my life to someone living in poverty, pretty much everything I say I can’t live without is not even on their list of minimum things they would like to have. I am very aware of this and in no way is this meant to make light of them or their situation.

Unlike Mary Poppin’s list of favorite things, my list may not matter to you, but they do to me. Actually, if I had to live without most of these items, I could. But, to maintain happiness, I would have a hard time living without them. I admit they aren’t in order of importance. The ninth item is actually the most important to me. And I will admit it would be extremely hard to live without that one.

7 Steps to Plan Your Next Road Trip

In the past, planning a road trip meant figuring out the location, making the reservations, and planning the meals. Most of these trips lasted a weekend or maybe a week. These trips had one destination and it was drivable from our home.

This year I have planned a trip that will be over a week and will include three states. That was a little more complicated and required a lot of research. In the end, I think the steps I took will result in a much more interesting, less stressful, and more enjoyable trip. I’m about to share those steps with you so that you, too, will be able to plan and enjoy a great vacation, by avoiding as many stumbling blocks as possible along the way.

Slaves: How many are providing for your needs?

Slaves - How many are providing for your needs

Did you wake up this morning wondering how many slaves are providing for your needs? You should have. I have 32. I’m not proud of it. It’s something we don’t think about, but maybe everyone should think about it. And once you learn about it you might want to alter your purchasing or hold the United States companies and corporations accountable for the labor that is used to make their product. Make them aware that you want them to make changes. Made in the USA makes a difference, but is not always a guarantee.

Your slaves, like mine, work 12-20 hours a day, 6-7 days a week with little or no pay. Minimal amounts of food are given to them. The largest numbers of them are children, many working in dangerous situations.

Born Color Blind – Weren’t you?

I was born color blind. I never thought of it as a problem. In fact, I thought everyone was. It was the way I was raised and as far as I knew, everyone else I knew, was raised that way, too. It’s not the color blindness that you think of, the one related to your ability to see things in color. I can see things in color, but for the most part, I’ve grown up not paying attention to the color of people’s skin. I was raised believing all people are created equally by God, regardless of their skin color.

These days saying I’m color blind in this matter may not be acceptable. I’m sorry if I have offended you. You may disagree with me, but this is how I have felt all my life. Please let me explain.
