A New Grandchild – Baby Love

Baby Love

There is something about a new grandchild that is so amazing, that we feel like we can never feel that in-love with a child again. At least until the next one is born. It’s baby love.

We recently were able to travel to see our latest grandchild. She is our fifth. Our first two were boys and now it’s been three girls in a row. We had seen pictures of her and had known she was a girl months before her birth. However, holding a child for the first time far exceeds seeing pictures. I believe that is when your love for that baby really sinks in.

Why You Should be Reading James Patterson’s Books

James Patterson books

If you love thrilling books, most of James Patterson’s books should be of interest to you. Actually, he has written a few love stories and non-fiction books, too. However, there are too many of his thrillers out there, for me to spend time with the others at this time. It is one of my goals to read nearly every book he has ever written. That may be difficult since he comes out with in excess of twenty books each year.

James Patterson is the bestselling author of the world. He has had 73 #1 bestsellers. Some of his books have been turned into movies. He has written for both adults and teens. He started writing for teens when his son wasn’t reading many books. Mr. Patterson says “there is no such thing as a person who doesn’t like to read, only people who haven’t found the right book.” If you like to stick with the same author, you can plan on reading his books for many years, since he has already written over 300 books.

6 Joys of Face Masks – looking for something positive in our current situation

face masks

I will admit that the last thing I ever wanted to wear on my face was a mask. Unless I was skiing in frigid weather, and I’m not a skier. Especially, when this, the dreaded mask-wearing, has been going on for over a year with no end in sight, at least in the state of California, where I live. So, as a way to try to appreciate the positives of mask-wearing, I have come up with a list of six joys of face masks, that might help you appreciate them, too. Or, maybe not.

I do want to emphasize that I do wear my mask in public when required. And I am in no way trying to downplay the Covid-19 virus. I realize it is serious and I’m quickly approaching the high-risk age group. However, I still would rather not wear a mask. But I have tried looking for something positive in our current situation.

2021 Goals February Update

2021 Goals February Update

Here is my list for 2021

  1. Status: Complete our front yard landscaping. This is an absolute must since it’s carried over from last year.
  2. Status: Lose 5 pounds. I lowered this, but since I ended the year up instead of down, I am going to lose 5 pounds from my beginning weight of 2020, not 2021.
  3. Status: Ancestry: Type up the list I already have started on my mom’s mother’s side. Spend time contacting at least 2 cousins. I have reduced this goal to a more doable goal.
  4. Progress: I have finished 8 books. I am on track to make this one. Read 45 books.
  5. Status: Ride my bike. This can be a challenge because of my balance issues that seem like they will be permanent.
  6. Status: Visit three states that I have not visited before. This was a great goal last year and we did it, despite Covid shutdowns. I’ve already picked the states, so I am ready to start planning.
  7. Progress: I’m doing much better than last year. I have three baby quilts cut out already. Complete 3 quilts. Adult or baby. I might get working on a quilt for my son-in-law and one for my daughter-in-law.
  8. Progress: I’m not as far as I should be, yet I have walked 110 miles. Walk 1000 miles. I have attempted this for 3 years and never reached it. This year it is in writing so I hope I will complete it at last.

In February, I only made progress on three of my eight items. They are the same items as last month. And that progress is not as much as it should be if I’m spreading this out evenly. But I am further than I was at this time last year. Of course, my weight has once again gone up. Too much stress in my life right now is what I blame it on. But it’s really my fault no matter what I blame it on. I’m the one that buys the cookies at the grocery store. And I tend to eat more when I am visiting people or have company over. I currently have about 1/2 of a Tuxedo cake from Costco in my refrigerator. It is leftover from a combined birthday party for my two oldest grandchildren and myself this past weekend. Not good, since I may be the only one eating it.

How are you doing on your goals? Please let me know how much progress you have made in the comments section below.

7 Great Things About Being 60+

7 Great Thing about being 60+

My daughter recently turned 40. When I was forty I felt young. Life was busy, mainly because of my children’s activities, since they were 12 and 15. I made a point of attending every sporting event they were involved in, if possible. My daughter at 40 is living a different life with three children ages 3 through 8. In addition, she is living it through homeschooling, Covid-19 lockdowns, and masks. However, I am in my 60’s and life is so different. I am including a list of 7 great things about being 60+.

By the time I turned 50 my children were out of our house. We became empty-nesters, something I have learned to love. At that time I was convinced that living into my 70’s would be sufficient for me. I would have enjoyed a long and happy life.

My Dream for Children

My Dream for Children

My dream for children comes from being a grandma whose children had a much safer life than my grandchildren face today. It is a way for me to promote awareness of what children today can be subject to in their lifetimes. Also, it is my opinion that the desire of God would be that our world should place a higher regard on children, from the time they are conceived. For the safety of your children or grandchildren, please read the entire post. Additionally, note that anytime I am referring to a child or children I am referring to both boys and girls.

My dream for children is love, protection, and being taught values and truth. Children should receive a responsible education and learn about life and sex from their parents. In addition, they should never be treated differently because of their skin color. My dream for children is that they are cherished. As grandparents or parents, you are the protectors of those precious children. Unfortunately in today’s world, the task of raising a child is more important than ever. Here are my dreams for children and I hope they are yours, too.
