Where is your Dream Vacation if time and money doesn’t matter?

Dream Vacation

My husband and I bought a Timeshare with the dream of vacationing in Fiji. They hooked us into that dream. Over twenty years later, we haven’t taken a trip to Fiji yet, but we recently retired, so we have the time. But there has been this Covid thing that has changed many vacation plans. Will we end up taking it now? Since my focus lately has been seeing every state in the United States, I don’t know. If it takes me until the year I turn 75 to visit all the states, will I feel like traipsing off to Fiji at age 75? Probably not.

Where would you like to take your dream vacation if time and money doesn’t matter?

The first thing to decide is where you would go. Would you like to go to England? Or possibly New Zealand or Australia? Or somewhere warm, like California, Arizona, New Mexico, or Texas?

Have you been to Hawaii? Or Canada? Maybe you would like to take your time and visit South America? Or Iceland, I’ve heard it’s a great place to visit.

If I made it to twenty without getting married, a girlfriend and I would go to Switzerland. I was married three months after turning 20, so that trip never happened. I think Switzerland, Denmark, and Finland would be an enjoyable trip. Or how about Portugal or Spain? How about the pyramids in Egypt?

Remember, this would be a dream vacation, so choose wisely. Dream.

Research

When I plan a trip somewhere, I go to Pinterest and search for posts about the highlights of that location. We plan to go to North Dakota and Wyoming this year, so I have been saving pins to my boards on Pinterest. I set up a board called Travel. I set up sections for all 50 states, plus a few other miscellaneous items. Under North Dakota, I have saved pins for ideas for my trip to North Dakota. This helps me plan where I want to go, what places I might eat, and sometimes where I want to stay. I will say that North Dakota is not my dream vacation. However, it is a state I still plan to visit on my quest to visit every state in the United States.

Why?

It would help if you had a reason you would like to go to your dream destination. Remember, this is a dream vacation. Your why can convince you to go to one place over another.

Have you always wanted to go on a cruise? There are many destinations to sail to, like the Mediterranean, Alaska, the Panama Canal, and even the fall leaves along the eastern coast of the United States.

How about mountain climbing? Or possibly spending your days snorkeling and lying on the beach? What favorite pastime can you do while on a dream vacation? Think about that, and it may give you your why.

Who?

You might as well take someone along if you are dreaming. Take your spouse, or maybe a friend, if you do not have a spouse. Can you get excited about traveling with one of them? Or perhaps a group of friends for a girls’ or a guys’ trip? Sometimes I like to travel with others, but sometimes it is nice to be alone, or with one other person.

When?

What is the best time of year to visit your particular vacation spot? First, consider the closeness to the equator. Consider seasons. Would you rather visit when it’s snowing, or the leaves are falling? How about the heat of summer or the less hot spring or fall?

Your decision will make a big difference in the experience you will have. I would definitely avoid hurricane and tornado season if it applies to the destination you are heading to for your dream vacation. Another time to avoid would be holiday weekends and school holidays. If you are retired, you have the ability to go any time of year, so choose the best time for you.

What?

What would you do on your dream vacation? Relax? Tour? Golf? Shop? Go to shows? Eat out every meal? Spend the day at the beach? There is so much to pick from. You can do all of those things on your dream vacation.

What are you going to do about it? Is it possible to make your dream vacation a reality? If you put aside a certain amount of savings a month, could you take that trip in two or three years? Remember, this was a dream. You do not have to make it a reality. Maybe that dream vacation will always be a dream. It just might be a little clearer now.

If you have the funds and the time, maybe you might make a few changes to the dream. You’ve done the dreaming. Now make it a reality.
